The Studio · Brooklyn, NY

A craft-led packaging & brand practice from two veterans who refused to choose between the planet and the shelf.

Founded in 2018 by former Coca-Cola packaging designer Lena Okafor and former Pentagram brand strategist Marco Vidal. Eleven senior designers, structural engineers, and material scientists. No outsourced juniors. One studio, one floor, one shelf at a time.

A letter from the founders

Why a studio, why Brooklyn, why us.

Most of the agencies we left had two speeds: the sustainability deck, and the retail pitch. We wanted a third. A studio where every substrate is vetted by a structural engineer, every identity decision traces back to a buyer, and every client knows the name of the person holding the X-Acto.

We opened on Wythe Avenue six years ago with a 600-square-foot room, a single proofing table, and a working library of FSC-certified papers we keep stocked for clients to touch before they commit. Today the floor is bigger and the library is heavier, but the rule is the same: senior hands on every file, every shipment, every email.

If you're building a CPG brand that needs to live on a shelf without lying about how it got there — we'd like to meet you.

— Lena & Marco, Brooklyn

The founders

Two people. One floor. No account managers between you and the work.

Lena Okafor

Eight years on Coca-Cola's packaging innovation team in Atlanta, where she led the structural redesign of three global bottle formats. Holds three utility patents on compostable blister and refill systems. Joined the studio to work at human scale, on brands she could actually hold.

BFA, Packaging Design — Pratt Institute. Formerly Coca-Cola, Studio One.

Co-founder · Brand & Identity

Marco Vidal

Five years in Pentagram's New York office as a senior brand strategist across food, beverage, and wellness clients. Believes an identity should outlast the founder's mood and the CMO's tenure. Joined Lena to build a studio where strategy and structure report to the same desk.

MFA, Graphic Design — Yale School of Art. Formerly Pentagram, Mucca.

Shared rule: if a junior touches your file, we send you a refund.

How we run the studio

Four rules we don't bend.

  1. 01

    Senior hands on every file.

Eleven people on the floor — every designer, engineer, and material scientist is senior. Zero outsourced junior work, on any project, at any fee. The person in your kickoff is the person at your press check.

  2. 02

In-house FSC print, 14-day lead time.

We own direct relationships with FSC-certified printers in Brooklyn, Austin, Portland, and Toronto. Average production lead time: 14 days. Industry standard for CPG: 35. Your retail buyer will notice the difference.

  3. 03

Verified carbon-offset manifest on every shipment.

Every carton we ship leaves the studio with a signed carbon-offset production manifest and a full recyclability roadmap. Not a generic PDF — the actual job's substrate data, weight, and end-of-life pathway.

  4. 04

One percent of every invoice to the SPC.

One percent of every client invoice goes directly to the Sustainable Packaging Coalition — not a partner charity, not a foundation arm. The check, the receipt, and the impact report are in your handover document.

The ledger

The studio, by the numbers.

Not marketing claims. The numbers a CFO would ask for before the first invoice.
